Kids - Life of Prayer: 1. Why?

February 16, 2015

Our new series 'Life of prayer' began at Hope Kids this week, where we will be teaching all about what prayer is, how we should pray and what we should pray about.

This week we began with why should we pray.  Prayer is our way of communicating with God.  We can't have a relationship with our friends if we never talk to them, if God is your friend then you need to talk to Him to, by praying.

We heard about Joshua this week, how he asked God to make the sun stand still in the sky until he defeated all of his enemies.  God listened and the sun stood still in the sky for ONE WHOLE DAY! That was a powerful prayer.  Our key verse this week was James 5:16b, "The prayer of a godly person is powerful. It makes things happen." Joshua was Godly because he obeyed what God asked Him to do and always asked forgiveness if he messed up.  Our prayers can be powerful too if we try our best to follow God.

The kids have began a prayer diary which they will be filling up each week.  They are also taking a prayer log home each week so they can write down anything they pray for at home.

How you can encourage your kids this week:

  • remind them to write prayers in their prayer logs.

  • Go through the story of Joshua with them again (Find it in Joshua 10:1-15)

  • Discuss the key verse of James 5:16b when you pray with them.

  • Pray as a family throughout the week.

Remind your kids to bring their prayer logs back next week to Hope Kids to add to their prayer diaries.
