Throughout November in Hope Kids we learned together about how we can build a Godly reputation.
We looked at 4 key stories from the book of Daniel that showed us the Godly reputation that Daniel, and his friends had amongst the people in Babylon. Here is an overview of the 4 weeks of teaching:
Week 1. A reputation of strength - Daniel and his friends refused to eat in a way that would dishonour God, people saw that they had the strength to obey God even when faced with pressure to do otherwise.
Week 2. A reputation of courage - Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to worship the idol King Nebuchadnezzar had made even though it meant that they could be killed. They loved God too much to disobey Him, and trusted God that He would save them, this gave them courage. The King threw them into the furnace but God saved them and they weren't burned.
Week 3. A reputation of being humble - King Belshazzar was not a humble man. He refused to see that he needed to follow God. He worshipped other Gods. When the King hosted a party God wrote a message on the wall with what looked like the the fingers of a hand. Daniel told the King that the message said that God had judged him and his rule would end, but Daniel did not want to be rewarded for his work. That night Belshazzar made Daniel a ruler in the land, but Belzshazzar was killed. God rewards those who God got the credit for what He accomplishes.
Week 4. A reputation of faith - Daniel faced death when the King was tricked to make a law that no one could pray to anyone except him. Daniel loved God too much to stop praying to Him, he knew that God wanted him to continue. For his crime the King had to throw him into the den of lions. But God protected him, because Daniel had faith that God was powerful enough to do anything.
Ideas to continue to encourage your child to build a Godly reputation:
- Remind your children that a reptuation is the way others think of us.
- Read the stories again with your child.
- Ask what things they have done to build up each aspect of thier Godly reputation.
- Pray that God will help them each day to God show through our action.
